Our favourite films star. By July and Antonio.

Our favourite film star is Orlando Bloom. He has appeared in lots of really good films, such as Troy, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Lord of the Rings.

He was born in England in 1977. His mother was an English teacherand his father was a South African lawyer.

At school Orlando loved drama and appeared in lotrs of school plays. He was also interested in art and photography. Whe he was eighteen he went to drama school. In 1998, he had a terrible accident when he fell from a window and broke his back. The doctors thought he would never walk again, but he has recovered completely. In his short life he has also broken his nose, an arm and both legs!

In 1999, he got first big film role - as Legolas in Lord of the Rings. While they were filming in New Zeland, he went out with Jemma Kidd (sister of supermodel, Jodie), but they've split up since then. He's lived Los Angeles since 2001.

He's been in lots of great films and we are sure he'll star in lots more!

FOR and SINCE

We use Present Perfect tense to talk about action which started in the past and continues up to the present.

Examples
I have had this computer for about a year.
How long have you been at this school?
I haven't seen Julia since September.

Tip! For other uses of the Present Perfect tense, see the Present Perfect Tense - When To Use.

We use for with a period of time, for example: a few days, half an hour, two years. We use since with the time when the action started, for example: last year, June 8, I met you.
